THE TRUE MEANING OF THANKSGIVING
I felt convicted that I said even in jest that the most important thing about Thanksgiving was the Saints. That was of course ironic humor.
However, I heard this on Rush Limbaugh and saw a portion of it on Gary Bauer’s End of the Day email. (Here’s where to subscribe to it!) It is from George Washington’s Thanksgiving proclamation.
“…I do recommend and assign Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these United States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we then may all unite unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation… for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and … for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed…”
President Washington was acting out the express will of the First Congress, who passed and sent to the states the First Amendment with the Establishment Clause. I’d suggest today this type of proclamation might draw a lawsuit!

Quite frankly, I think people always talking about when the world ends is just pathetic. Live your life to the fullest while you still have to time.

Thanks for coming to and reading my blog, Watch Avatar. Please come again. I would answer this comment in the words of St. Peter nearly 2000 years ago:
“First of all, you must understand that in the last days socffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, ‘Where is this “coming” he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation. But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reseerved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” II Peter 3:3-7 (NIV)
Peter also says that “The is not close keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9 (NIV)
I do not know where you are at in your walk with God, if any, however, the Bible is clear: Jesus is coming again and will judge the living and the dead and make all things right. Trust in Him today.
