The convention was great! Cuccinelli was nominated for VA AG
State Senator Ken Cuccinelli was nominated by the Virginia Republican Party for Attorney General at the convention. You might ask what does thta have to do with Jindal? I suggest that this is part of the revival of the libertarian/conservative wing of the GOP. I hope that Cuccinelli will consider inviting Governor Jindal as a fundraising speaker (I might even pay this time to meet him!)
There is a great article confirming the mascent power of the so-called Ron Paul Republicans. Written by Soren Dayton, “Cuccinelli, Campaign for Liberty, and shifting GOP Party Politics”, it can be found at www.sorendayton.com.
Here are some great excerpts (emphasis is in the original article):
But when I got to the convention floor on Saturday, it was clear what was going on. The Virginia chapter of the Republican Liberty Caucus had endorsed Cuccinelli. They were out in force. From eyeballing, people identified with either the Republican Liberty Caucus or the Campaign for Liberty seemed to be about 10-15% of the convention. They pushed Cuccinelli over the top. I think this marks a pattern for the future of the GOP in smaller caucuses and conventions.
I wnat to see the Jindal followers and the Paul followers unite in a libertarian/conservative coalition. Governor Jindal can take advantage of this. That is a future blog posting.
My own observations is that Jindal is well-known within the GOP cluster of activists and few negative comments at all about him. Regardless of his immediate political future, eyes will remain turned form tiem to time to Louisiana to see what happens.
