The Times-Picayune reports that Jindal and two of his cabinet officials (The Secretary of the Department of Human Resources and the Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development) have filed comments opposing the EPA finding. 

A highlight from the T-P article:

In his letter, Jindal said the proposed rules “will have a dramatic, chilling effect on the refining and production capability of our state” and that cost of increased regulation will reduce the chances that companies will create jobs. Jindal said the EPA’s proposed rule could force manufacturers to move operations overseas, harming the national economy, and might ultimately harm the environment if those destinations have less stringent environmental regulations.

I am pleased to see this sort of stand.  This is good news.

Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a law Tuesday expanding Louisiana’s “conscience protection” for health-care workers beyond abortion, adding several services to the list that employees can refuse with assurances of job protection and legal immunity.

With the backing of social conservatives and religious activists, the administration said the measure is necessary to uphold the individual rights of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other workers whose personal beliefs might clash with their professional responsibilities.

This is a huge success for the pro-life movement and clearly establishes the Governor’s pro-life bona-fides.  Also, it prevents the tyranny of forcing health care providers to violate their consciences or religious beliefs.  It is actually a libertarian measure that Ron Paul Republicans can support.  Evangelicals can also cheer this on. 

It is also a shot across the bow in the health care debate as it is reportedthat Obamacare will gut this provision as “discriminatory”. 

This bill (HB 517) was chiefly sponsored by Democrat House member H. Bernard LeBas of Ville Platte.

The new agreement we have proposed to make investments in the Superdome is a critical part of making this event a success and I applaud the legislators who continue to work tirelessly to finalize this legislation.

This is significant because Senate President Chiasson is a Democrat.

But when you add in the deal is structured so the state’s financial obligation to the Saints considerably is lessened, down from the current $23.5 million the state owes this year under terms of the current agreement, to no more than $6 million per year under the proposed agreement, then it becomes that much more attractive.

And that $6 million could shrink, depending on whether the team can increase its revenue.

The state will pay at least $85 million in Superdome improvements, including added seating and suites, to help provide an avenue for the increase. And Saints owner Tom Benson will buy New Orleans Centre and Dominion Tower, and will lease to the state 320,000 square feet at Dominion Tower for state agencies.

DeShazier’s conclusion is favorable (especially for a public rightly skeptical of stadium deals):

But this ought to be bought because, really, it appears to be a good deal for the state and for the franchise.

This is another example of the new way of thinking that Governor Jindal is bringing to Louisiana.
