RACHEL MADDOW SHOWS THE “NO RIGHTS” ARGUMENT WRONG BUT…
I said to a liberal friend of mine that I needed to be checked for a fever. I was cheering for Rachel Maddow! (He suggested my next choice to cheer for might be Keith Olbermann; I said take me to the ER if I did that!)
Maddow ridiculed the false and pernicious doctrine that terror suspects, even in the USA, get military interrogations and trials and must not be “lawyered-up” or be read their rights. I have been commenting on how this is bad politics.
However, Maddow seems content to merely assert the wrongness of this obsession. I propose to go further: We need a coalition of organizations to fight this doctrine and educate the public. I hope that this does not hurt the GOP’s chances in the fall. But they must renounce this issue or at least offer constructive and constitutional solutions.
Not every person has the same cluster of Constitutional rights. However, we must not determine that anyone is beyond the rights in the Constitution, no matter what they did or allegedly did. Glenn Greenwald wrote to the danger of the ”terrorist” accusation. The charge must be proven. It would seem that this is central to what makes America great. Who will join me!
