Jindal supported efforts to end speed traps in Louisiana
The Monroe News-Star on line reports that a bill introduced by GOP Rep. Hollis Downs of Ruston to end so-called interstate speed traps. The bill sends the money collected from tickets of nine MPH or less over the speed limit to a state agency, rather than the municipality.
This bill had the support of the Jindal administration:
“Downs said he worked with the LMA, State Police, the Jindal administration and the chiefs of police and marshals associations in assembling HB626, which was signed into law by the governor June 29.”
This is another example of the kind of ethics reform Louisiana needs. I realize that speed traps are not an earth-shaking issue. Gov. Jindal might have had weightier items to consider but this is important to prevent drivers from being victimized and harassed. It also may combat racial profiling.
