INTRIGUING ARTICLE ABOUT THE DEFICIT/DEBT

Elizabeth McDonald writes at Fox Business an intriguing article that suggests that the deficit/debt could be reduced by 1.5 trillion dollars.

Most of her savings comes from selling off unused federal properties, cutting useless agencies, and silly earmarks.

I propose that if we scrutinize the needs of our foreign policy and reduce bases/troop numbers to sensible levels, we can further cut the budget without sacrificing a strong national defense.  Ron Paul is quoted in this video (courtesy of the Pittsburgh Tribune) in 2007 that the foreign policy costs of empire is nearly a trillion dollars a year.  Even if we maintain a presence in say South Korea to prevent a foolish war, there are many places we can substantially remove our military presence.
