HOW TO FIX THE ROSE BOWL!
I try not to watch the Rose Bowl. (I did see the end to see if OSU won since I did live in Ohio) I am not usually interested in it and for a simple reason: No Southern team can be in it. Part of my excitement about the national championship game is the fact that it is in Pasadena and it is the first time since 1945 (actually 1/1/46) that Alabama has played in Pasadena. (For those checking, 1945 was the last year the Cubs won the pennant!)
So this San Diego commentator is concerned that the Rose Bowl is not relevant. Maybe the Rose Bowl is not relevant anymore since only twelve states can have a team in it. The Rose Bowl was the first and until 1936 the only bowl game. The best team from the east versus the best team from the west. Guess who is 4-1-1 in the Rose Bowl? Alabama! (Guess where I went to law school?) In 1926, Alabama was presented up as the victim for the Washington State University team and guess what – the Southern team won!
Here’s a modest idea: Open up the Rose Bowl. Let all the teams try out. Increase its excitement. Look at what happened at the Rose Parade! By the way, here are several articles in Alabama about this float. Excitement! Even in Auburn! In Savannah, Georgia, too! Throughout the Southland the 1931 Rose Bowl team was cheered on the float of champions! And when they set up a playoff: Make the Rose Bowl the championship game.
