Just curious. Other than the US, is there any country that has so many bases in Sovereign Nations? I am sure the UK still has a few, but these are mostly in countries with some attachment from their colonial days.

We are in almost every major Western European country with some pretty significant bases. Spain, Germany, etc. And in Asia. Japan being a major presence.

Years ago, having large forces and equipment pre-positioned in various theaters made sense, logistically speaking. But now, we can fly missions from the US Heartland, round trip to almost any place in the world. Carriers can provide air power and the way warfare has changed, we normally pound a country for some time before we put boots on the ground.

If we bring the military home, reopen some bases and spend the money being spent in Europe and Asia for food and supplies, as well as off base spending by the soldiers in America, the economy would benefit.

There are some positives to Paul's foreign policy. There are a number of things I do not find exciting about his foreign policies, but I think warfare has changed enough that a presence close by is no longer the adcantage it used to be.
